The purpose of the course is to enable participants to communicate in basic conversational German in social and other situations.

 - Listen to and comprehend a German speaker  - Comprehend a German speaker at a basic level
- Take part in a conversation in basic German on everyday topics  - Take part in a conversation in German at a basic level
 - Ask for information in German and reply to such questions  - Ask for information in German and respond to such inquiries
- Read and comprehend basic German texts  - Answer comprehension questions on a basic German text
 - Comprehend and explain basic aspects of German culture - Explain and appreciate aspects of German culture
