the Administration of Estates
Legal Aid South Africa requested the Law Clinic to present a training course to paralegals and attorneys employed in their estate’s department on the practical skills and knowledge needed to administer a deceased estate.

Purpose of the course:

The purpose of this course is to train participants (legal practitioners and paralegal practitioners) on the critical skills necessary to administer a deceased estate. This will enable the participants to properly and efficiently administer a deceased estate.

Learning assumed to be in place: 
Recommended prior experience and knowledge in basic law fundamentals

  After completion of this course, participants will: Participant will be assessed on the following criteria:

MODULE 1:      A DECEASED ESTATE

After the completion of this module the learner should be able to show an informed understanding of the basic principles of the law of testate and intestate succession At the end of the module the learner will be expected, within the context of a class situation, to practically demonstrate an informed knowledge base of the law of testate and intestate succession

MODULE 2:      THE ADMINISTRATION PROCESS

After the completion of this module the learner should be able to show an informed understanding of the basic principles of the process for the administration of a deceased estate At the end of the module the learner will be expected, within the context of a class situation, to practically demonstrate an informed knowledge base of the process for the administration of a deceased estate

MODULE 3:      ESTATE DUTY

After the completion of this module the learner should be able to show an informed understanding of the basic principles of estate duty At the end of the module the learner will be expected, within the context of a class situation, to practically demonstrate an informed knowledge base of estate duty
