This course provides an opportunity to students who are on the verge of entering the job market to obtain the necessary skills in English that will enable them to communicate effectively in a professional context. It will also assist people who are engaged in a profession and who wish to improve their skills in Business English.

Purpose of the course:

To enhance listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English typically required in professional situations.

None, but prospective participants should note the learning assumed to be in place.

Participants should have completed their secondary school education and have an intermediate level of proficiency in English.

  After completion of this course, participants will: Participant will be assessed on the following criteria:
  • Use English grammar as accurately and fluently as possible
  • Participants are able to use the English grammatical system as accurately and fluently as possible in communication
  • Look up the pronunciation of an English word in a pronunciation dictionary
  • Participants are able to look up the pronunciation of an English word and pronounce it correctly
  • Write a report, memorandum, agenda and minutes of a meeting
  • Participants are able to write an effective report, memorandum, agenda and minutes, using the generally accepted format
  • Write an effective and clear business letter and e-mail
  • Participants are able to write an effective business letter and e-mail
  • Deliver an effective presentation, using appropriate visual aids and technology
  • Participants are able to make an effective presentation, using appropriate aids
  • Read and comprehend business documentation
  • Employ effective skimming, scanning and detailed reading techniques in order to comprehend business documentation

No official assessment since it is a participation course.
Method of assessment: 
Participants will be given tasks to complete on which they will receive feedback.
