Welcome to the Unit for Continuing Education (UCE) at the NWU

Continuing education provides individuals with skills taught in the form of short courses, short learning programmes, seminars, and workshops.  These short courses are contributing factors to improving the employability of individuals. Project management, basic financial skills, emotional intelligence, human resources, teaching English as a foreign language, and others provide entry-level possibilities in a variety of industries.

The duration of these short courses vary from a few days to 10 months, and during this time individuals acquire leadership and managerial and interpersonal skills that inspire career advancement. These courses are designed to achieve both career and personal growth. Examples of these courses are computer skills, conflict and stress management, emotional intelligence, and mentoring and coaching; these topics are not only useful in the workplace but also make it easier to keep up with advancing and changing subject matter. A solid understanding of accounting acquired at a bookkeeping short course or a course in small business management can be very helpful when managing your own finances, especially if you are working towards establishing your own business.

Continuing education expands an individual’s expertise and, with proper preparation, could assist in the unlocking of potential. Not only are short courses an educational opportunity for the unskilled and unwaged; it offers opportunities for anyone looking to develop themselves in diverse aspects of life.

The Unit for Continuing Education (UCE) is responsible for the management and coordination of continuing education (CE) courses at the University and is designed to have a positive academic impact that benefits society, the student and the University.
